UNIT 1 - Impromptu Introduction

Intro to Impromptu Speaking: "Party Chatting"

We will begin the course with quite a bit of this particular style of impromptu speaking.

Purpose: Ice breaking, building relationships, "getting to know you" speaking.

This beginning stage of impromptu is more off the cuff and loose. It is mostly from common knowledge and is almost entirely unprepared, unscripted, and we will cover a wide range of topics.


Definition: impromptu

adjective

1. Made or done without previous preparation.

2. Suddenly or hastily prepared, made, etc.

3. Improvised or having the character of an improvisation

Criteria for the first several impromptu speeches:


  • Short speeches of  30 sec to 1 minute.
  • Must always be performed in front of the class
  • With and without microphones (depending)

MORE STRUCTURED IMPROMPTU SPPECH
